CHICHESTER – 22/23 JUNE 2002

The venue has been changed from Littlehampton due to building works and also the Marina operating times, both of which could cause problems with launch, recovery and car /trailer parking.

Hence. due to the recent success in using Chichester we are proposing to use this venue again as a base.

The provisional itinery is:-

Saturday

The aim is to go east to Brighton Marina which is approx 35 nm from Chichester harbour entrance.

Launch between 9.00 and 10.30 – BST. Not pathfinder time please!!

Briefing at 11.00 am

Leave around 11.15 am

I estimate the journey time to be around 2 – 2.5 hours including the journey from the marina to the harbour entrance.

People travelling by sea from other start points, meet at East Head around 11.45 am.

High Tide Chichester is  10.12 am (4.7m), Low Tide is 16.18pm (0.7m)

Brighton has direct access all states of the tide.

Chichester is locked but departure will be on free flow and return may be depending on time of arrival, but the locking procedure is simple.

Meals - I anticipate people making their own arrangements for lunch. In the evening, if people want (please let me know) I will try to arrange a meal at the marina.

This will give people around 4 hours at Brighton if I arrange an evening meal for, say, 6.30 with a return departure commencing around 8 - 8.30. This will give an evening/dusk return and the sunsets can be lovely (if sun!!) Nav lights essential  just in case.

Is 4 hours too long for people? You can get to the town centre with a 0.5 hr brisk walk.

For people berthing overnight please make arrangements on arrival (or before) with the marina - they will be expecting us.

For launching you will need to pay launch fees.

Fees - launch/recovery    £16

          Overnight              £1.95 per metre.

Sunday

Venue to be determined but will be local due to people having to depart in the afternoon.

Waypoints for Saturday

Only 4 key waypoints are needed. Beware, however, of lobster pot markers at Bognor and Portslade/Shoreham where they can be prolific and keep eyes open for rest of journey as route well fished.
