THE CLUB
COMMITTEE PATHFINDER
Powerboat Club welcomes boat owning new members throughout the country, whether
novice or experienced, who believe in a safe and seaman like approach to having
fun and exploring tidal waters in their powerboats.
Formerly linked to the Seafever Sea School,
the Club reformed itself as a completely independent, non-commercial
organisation in 1998, and is an RYA
affiliated club.
We set out to provide opportunities for you to expand your horizons and develop
your boating skills in the company of others. Indeed, one of the Club’s
strengths is the willingness of its more experienced and RYA qualified members
to provide support and encouragement to others, both on and off the water.
Another is the
excellent social atmosphere when everybody gets together for a pub supper at the
end of another great day afloat.
Most members own
Sportsboats Sportscruisers or RIBs - many trailerable to take advantage of our
widespread venues, others kept afloat – all capable of cruising at 20 knots in
good weather and sea conditions, some faster of course.
The Club runs a very full programme of events afloat from April to October, at
varying locations around the coast. They vary from the weekend out where we will
return to base each evening, the weekends where we may stop away and the weeks
away. Most trips operate from the South Coast and East Coast. Events afloat
range from exploring tidal estuaries to short coastal cruises, and even crossing
the Channel, but always with the emphasis on safety and seamanship.
We have on shore social events at both the start and end of the season.
Our Inshore Cruising
Secretary looks after the core programme of events, at which any level of
experience is welcome. These events are mostly based between Weymouth and
Ipswich, usually returning to the launching place each evening, so that you can
come just for a day, or for the whole weekend.
Our Coastal Cruising Secretary is responsible for the more adventurous events
that go further afield, whether by water or by road. These events are often the
result of members’ requests, and past destinations have included Northumberland,
North Wales, Pembrokeshire, the Bristol Channel, the West Country, the Pas de
Calais, Cherbourg, Salcombe, Channel Isles and the Isles of Scilly..
Throughout the
season, our monthly newsletter will keep
you up-to-date, and remind you of forthcoming events.
Annual membership (2008) costs just £30 (individual) or £40 (family). For new
members joining after 30th September, membership expires 31st January in the
second year after joining.
